As an e-commerce business owner, you may encounter situations where you need to partially fulfill an order on your Shopify store. This can happen when some items are out of stock or when customers request separate shipments for different products. In this article, we will guide you through the steps to partially fulfill orders on Shopify.
Step 1: Access your Shopify Dashboard
To begin, log in to your Shopify account and access your store’s dashboard. From there, navigate to the “Orders” tab, where you can view and manage your incoming orders.
Step 2: Identify the Order to Partially Fulfill
Locate the specific order that needs partial fulfillment. You can search for it by order number, customer name, or any other relevant information using the search bar provided.
Step 3: Edit the Order
Once you have identified the order, click on it to open the order details page. Here, you can review the customer’s information, order items, shipping address, and any special notes they may have added.
Step 4: Mark Items for Partial Fulfillment
Scroll down to the “Fulfillment” section of the order details page. You will see a list of items included in the order. Next to each item, you will find a checkbox. Check the boxes next to the items you are ready to fulfill at this time. Leave unchecked the boxes next to the items you cannot fulfill yet.
Step 5: Select Partial Fulfillment Option
After marking the items for partial fulfillment, locate the “More actions” button on the right-hand side of the page. Click on it to reveal a dropdown menu. From the menu, select the “Create partial fulfillment” option.
Step 6: Specify Quantity and Tracking Information
A new window will pop up, allowing you to specify the quantity of the items you are fulfilling now. Enter the exact quantity you are shipping in this partial fulfillment. If applicable, enter any tracking information for the shipment as well.
Step 7: Save and Confirm
Once you have entered the necessary information, click on the “Save” button to confirm the partial fulfillment. You will be redirected back to the order details page.
Step 8: Communicate with the Customer
It’s essential to keep your customer informed about the partial fulfillment. Shopify provides an option to send an email notification to the customer regarding the status of their order. To do this, scroll down to the “Notifications” section on the order details page. Check the box next to “Send a notification to the customer,” and Shopify will automatically send an email informing them that part of their order has been shipped.
Step 9: Repeat the Process (If Necessary)
If there are additional items to fulfill later or if the customer requests separate shipments, repeat steps 4 to 8 for each partial fulfillment until the entire order is fulfilled.
By following these steps, you can easily manage and partially fulfill orders on your Shopify store. Providing transparency and communication with your customers throughout the process is crucial to maintaining a positive shopping experience. Remember to update the order status and tracking information accordingly, both in your Shopify dashboard and any relevant third-party shipping platforms.
